Obey?

Kate Middleton will not pledge to obey William in her vows.  You can read the news clip I've attached.

Personally, I don't think it's really that big a deal.  I know we wrote/compiled our own unique vows because a cookie cutter design just isn't my style, in anything really.  But, I think it is an important step in the right direction that Kate's doing here, because her wedding will inform weddings to come and no woman should be expected to "obey" while her partner is not obligated to do so. Hopefully, women who have taken note of the meaning behind the one-sided obey promise and feel uncomfortable about saying it will now have the courage to vow exactly and only what they feel is most important in their wedding vows.

No, I am not getting up at 4am to watch the wedding. But, I approve, and I'm sure they'll be plenty of videos for me to watch it after the fact.  I value my sleep too much to let someone else's wedding interrupt it.  Besides, no wedding was nearly as special or as important as mine! ;)

What's everyone else think about the wedding?  Will you be watching?

I agree with you that it's not that huge of a deal. I think at this point the only reason the 'obey' clause even still exists is just because no one really cares that much about the tradition and either omits it or just ignores it. I honestly don't even remember my specific vows, but I know what I vowed in my heart. That's what matters. I don't think anyone, even the people who don't omit it, hold that clause over their partner's head. That's dumb.

As far as the royal wedding goes, I am kinda excited about it. Not enough so to get up at 4 to watch live, but definitely enough to DVR it and start watching the next day! It'll be fun! Wish I had some of you girls here to have a party with me! Our version of the Superbowl? Lol. Anyway, should make for a fun day.
